Commonly asked Questions

I have thousands of dives and I've been an instructor for 45 years. How do I join the team ?

At present we have 41 members and a waiting list for new members. We are only allowed 12-14 divers each month so in order to give each existing member the opportunity to dive a few times during the year, we are not adding anyone to our waiting list at this time. Check this website for updates to future membership opportunities.

Ok, If you have no room for me on the team how can I dive Silver Springs? How big of a donation does it take?

Making a donation to the team does not get you on the team or access to dive in Silver Springs. Scuba diving is not allowed in Silver Springs with few exceptions and approvals. Our team is a 501(c)(3) corporation established to serve Silver Springs State Park. We do not have unlimited access to the river. We get authorization each month from the concessionaire that operates the glass bottom boats and approval by the administration of the state park.

I lost my Rolex, iPhone, sunglasses or similar item in the Silver River. Can you find it for me?

If you lose something of value in the springs, notify a boat captain or park personnel with the type of item lost and approximate location. When possible we are happy to search for any valuables during our next diving opportunity. However, please be aware that the flow and movement of the rivers changes the underwater environment constantly. Because we can't respond immediately, it is highly unlikely will be able to find your item.

Why are you disturbing artifacts in the river? and what are you doing with them?

We do not disturb artifacts in the river but we do check on remnants of ancient artifacts and check the remains of movie and TV props that still exist in the springs and Silver River in an attempt to protect and preserve them for the more than 150,000 visitors who ride the glass bottom boats each year. We also do not touch, collect, or otherwise move artifacts from their resting place.

What will you use donations for?

In short, we will use them to buy safety gear and equipment to better support the team and make our work faster and more effective. See the details here
